July '08 Meeting

Hello again,

We had a fun meeting on Saturday. Nancy fed us Baby Back Ribs. I want to thank Michael for fixing them. He did a great job! Gwyn brought a Three Bean Salad. It was really good too. She posted the recipe on ravelry but I'm going to post it here too. Marla brought us a Cucumber salad. I want the recipe to that one too. Would you post it on ravelry? Oh, don't let me forget the cake Nancy made. It was wonderful. :) I think we all ate really well that day and enjoyed every bit of it. Thanks Nancy for letting us have it there! :)

Here's Gwyn's recipe:

Three Bean Salad
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup oil
1 red onion, sliced
2 cans cut green beans
1 can red kidney beans
1 can white wax beans
2/3 cup cider vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Drain all beans well. Mix sugar, vinegar, oil and salt and pepper. Let stand until sugar dissolves. Pour over beans and onion mixture.
Marinate several hours or overnight in refrigerator. Before serving, drain well.

We had lots of projects to share this time. Here are some pictures I took of them. The first one is Marla's socks. She started on them after our last meeting and she already finished them. Can you believe that? She's never made socks before but she was able to make them in no time flat. I know I'm jealous! :)

And here's Marla STILL working on her Dr. Who scarf. Shouldn't you be done with that by now? Oh, I forgot you were busy making the socks. :)

I forgot what Nancy was working on but isn't it great just to have a picture of her smiling face. She always makes my smile.

This is Barbara working on a baby hat (I think). Sorry, I'm having trouble remembering what people were making. I'll have to write it down next time.

These are some baby wash cloths that Gwyn made. Aren't they just adorable?

Here's Gwyn working on a baby gift of some kind but I can't remember what it is exactly.

I'm so glad I remembered what Jennifer was working on. :) It's a bag! Oh, well I guess you can all tell that from the picture. :(

Here's Judy making a baby blanket...? Yeah, I'm sure that's what it is ... maybe?

FINALLY! Something I'd better not forget ... It's me working on a scarf.

And last but not least the group photo. Thank you Judy for recommending that we take the photo outside. It turned out really nice.

I hope AeJa wasn't too bored hanging out with us. She's Judy and my friend Mi-Ran's mother visiting from South Korea. I think she had an o.k. time. Maybe she at least enjoyed the food even though she couldn't understand us most of the time. :)

Oh, yeah. Here's a link to a lady's web site that sales handspun alpaca yarn in Pocahontas, Arkansas. I told some of you about it at the meeting. She's got some beautiful natural black, white and brown alpaca yarn.

We are going to go to Knitting for Noggins again this year. So if you haven't already started on your hats ... get to knitting or crocheting girls! It was so much fun last year. I think you will enjoy going. I hope to see you there.

I hope I didn't forget anything. Oh, one more thing. We are going to try the potluck/pool party meeting again in August. The meeting will be on the 9th at 11:30 a.m. I will send out directions to Leah's house when I know for sure that we're doing it.

See yeah next time,

Opal
